Koshi are mysterious, diminutive rahi that live on the Kentoku Archipelago.
History
Koshi (derived from the Taajar name for them, *koshi zyar*, or ‘little watcher’) are diminutive rahi that live on the Kentoku Archipelago. It was debated in the halls of Sado whether they existed at all, or were folk tales that were occasionally scapegoated by Imperial officials as no living nor dead specimens have ever been recovered. There was an empress that once declared the now-reclusive rahi a pest; although the law was repealed and never officially enforced, koshi sightings have been rare since.
Abilities and Traits
The koshi’s most noticeable aspect is it’s eyes; while the creature is twirling from branch to branch, the tales say their eyes could remain still. There are reportedly three different subspecies of koshi; forest koshi, sea koshi, and mountain koshi. Each is told to make different sounds; forest koshi sound like bells, sea koshi sound like dripping water, and mountain koshi sound like stone chimes. When not moving along the ground or swinging though trees, they are known to float in a way not dissimilar to jellyfish.
It’s theorized by researchers that the reason that sightings have dramatically decreased is that koshi possess some level of innate mental ability; Sighteye, and on some level, Willhammer. It would explain the legends of people meeting the gaze of a Koshi and losing their memories, and why a significant portion of sightings are from Willhammers.
Besides stealing food and occasionally playing pranks, legends of the koshi describe them as having the ability to cure any poison or corruption, but are incredibly vulnerable to it as well; only the three types together can safely cure an affliction without dying and leaving a curse on the healed.
