The Volo Lutu Launcher is a technological tool native to Mata Nui, which is used to catapult the user over obstacles.

Description

The Volo Lutu launcher is a device that catapults the user across rivers, canyons and other obstacles with ease. It does so in a manner that can be likened to a grappling hook; an instrument, called a Volo Lutu Sphere, is fired across and the Matoran holding the launcher is then tugged to the landmark onto which the sphere was fired.

The technology behind the device is unknown. It is clearly considerably more advanced than native Mata Nui technology, and yet they are relatively common on the island. It is possibly that they are similar to Kanohi masks in this respect.

History

Volo Lutu launchers have been around since before Makuta's reign. They were most commonly used by Le-Matoran to travel in the jungle. After Makuta was defeated by the Toa Maru, the Matoran found ways to produce these launchers more efficiently and also for larger beings like Toa as opposed to just Matoran.

Volo Lutu are notably used by the crews of ships for boarding purposes.

Sport

Volo Lutu launchers are sometimes used in the sport Kewa Bird Riding in Le-Koro to knock players off their Kewa birds.
